Machinga First Grade Magistrate Court on Friday sentenced a 26 year-old woman to four years in jail for sexually assaulting a 22 year old man.

The convict identified as Iness Salamba was found guilty for the offence of indecent assault which is contrary to 155 of the penal code.

CourtState prosecutor Joel Kabichi based at Ntaja police post told the court that on 28th October 2016, the victim who is epileptic was suspected to be sick after his mother noticed how weak he was looking.

When the woman asked the victim why he was looking pale, he revealed that Salamba took him into her house where she undressed herself and then forced him to have sex with her.

The mother to the victim reported the matter to village headwoman, and then to our office,” Kabichi said.

He then told the court that whenever a man rapes any girl the law breaker is always given stiffer punishment hence the convict deserved custodial sentence to deter other women from committing the same offence.

During mitigation, Sambala prayed for fair punishment for she is a mother of a form 2 girl and she takes care of an orphan.

But when passing judgement her Worship Esther Phiri sentenced Iness Salamba to three years imprisonment with hard labour.

Salamba comes from Lodesi village, in the area of traditional authority (T/A) Kawinga of Machinga district.
