Students at Robert Blake Secondary School in Dowa district Wednesday night went on rampage, damaging school property valued K4.7 million.

The students turned violent in protest to the school’s decision to suspend five of their colleagues.

According to headmaster of the school Griffin Chapita, the five students were suspended pending ministry of education decision for teasing and bullying.

“The suspended students were forcing some students to smoke Indian hemp and this forced the teased students to report the issue to the management,” said Chapita.

The headmaster further said that this did not go well with the suspended students and they unlawfully assembled with others and began damaging school property.

“Some of the property that were damaged are TV screen, wall clocks, books, files, chairs, printers, laptop, computers among others all valuing K4.7 million,” said Chapita.

So far all Form Four students at the school have been suspended pending the ministry of education’s decision.

Meanwhile, the incident was reported to Dowa Police and officers have launched investigations into the matter.

According to Dowa police spokesperson Richard Kaponda, no arrest has been made so far but if the students will be arrested they shall appear in court to answer the charge of malicious damage contrary to section 344 of penal code.

This will affect your exam preparations, in fact some of you will have to repeat. These are costs to be borne by you & your parents/guardians.   37. Had it been the former students were doing what this idiots are doing do you think this school could have been there up to now? What destroying property when you have grievances. Kongwe has been a school of high profile in Malawi and produced the best students in as far as Education of Malawi is concerned. Now yes for sure Education in Malawi has lost its standard no wonder thugs are found in school rooting and vandalising school property. Thugs belong to prison take them there.

  39. Their parents must pay for damages…when I was in high sch..at new era boys. Whenever the administration pissed off students and they started breaking things,the punishment was heavy..for 10 broken glasses(window) every student was demanded to pay k20,000..now do the math.. 20 pin multiplied by whole school..it was a loss to us..and we felt the punishment.. As a result..we stopped breaking things…thou myself never broke anything.. These students must be taught the same way..if their parents see this as being hash on them then they’ll discipline there evil minded children
