FAM denies abandoning Scorchers players

Players Waiting For Minibus- Malawi24

.The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has dismissed claims that Malawi National Women’s Football Team players, the Scorchers, were abandoned after arriving in the country.

According to FAM, transport arrangements had been made for all players.

In a press release FAM said the arrangements were made upon the players arrival at Bakili Muluzi International Airport and Kamuzu International Airport.

The clarification follows the circulation of pictures on social media showing some Scorchers players waiting for transport to their respective homes, raising concerns about their welfare and the association’s handling of their travel arrangements.

FAM, however, said some players opted to be dropped off at designated stages, where they preferred to arrange their own transport for the remaining journeys to their homes.

The association maintained that the players were not abandoned, arguing that transport had already been provided to facilitate their safe movement from the airports.

“As part of its Football Transformation Agenda, FAM remains committed to prioritising the welfare, safety and well-being of players and all key stakeholders,” the statement reads.

FAM added that it would continue to ensure appropriate logistical arrangements are made for national teams during official assignments.
