Police in Machinga have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old boy at Ntaja Trading Centre.
The incident allegedly happened during the night of October 12 to 13, 2026, after the suspect reportedly took the boy, who is a street child, to her rented house.
Machinga Police Station public relations officer Sergeant Western Kansire confirmed the arrest, identifying the suspect as Rebecca Dyton, from Mdeza Village, Traditional Authority Liwonde, in Machinga District.
Kansire said police arrested Dyton following a report made at Ntaja Police Post on October 13, 2026.
The matter was reported by a social worker from the O.M. Mulumikizi Project after another street child, who allegedly witnessed the incident, disclosed what had happened.
Police subsequently arrested the suspect, who allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the boy.
Dyton is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of having sexual intercourse with a male child under the age of 18, contrary to Section 138(2) of the Penal Code.
Police have not provided further details about when she will appear in court.
