Contractors implementing projects under the Reformed Constituency Development Fund (RCDF) in Kasungu have been warned against delivering substandard work.
Kasungu District Commissioner Dr Lawford Palani issued the warning on Monday during the handover of project sites and the launch of RCDF projects in Kasungu Central Constituency.
Palani said the district council will closely monitor all RCDF projects to ensure contractors meet construction standards and deliver value for public money.
He warned contractors against cutting corners during implementation, saying the council expects every project to be completed according to the agreed specifications.
Kasungu Central Constituency has shortlisted nine projects for implementation in the first financial year of the RCDF programme.
The projects cover health, education, agriculture, sanitation, roads, bridges and water supply.
Among the major projects is the construction of a K1.6 billion maternity facility at Kaphaizi, alongside a staff house, a reticulated water system, road and bridge upgrades, and a new school block.
Senior Chief Kaphaizi welcomed the maternity facility, saying it will improve access to maternal healthcare services and reduce the challenges women face in accessing maternity care in the area.
Kasungu District Council Chairperson Councillor Nephtalie Chikwanda described the RCDF as a game changer for the district, saying it has the potential to accelerate development across communities.
Member of Parliament for Kasungu Central Constituency Chikondi Chasale called on community members to take an active role in monitoring the projects to ensure contractors deliver quality work and public resources are used responsibly.
