An unidentified man believed to be in his early 30s has died after losing control of a motorcycle along Old Chileka Road in Blantyre.
Ndirande Police Public Relations Officer Chibisa Mulimbika said the accident happened on Sunday morning as the man was riding towards Kameza Roundabout from Machinjiri Roundabout.
Mulimbika said the man was riding an unregistered King Bossi motorcycle in the outer lane when he reportedly lost control due to speeding.
The motorcycle veered off the road and crashed into a pavement curb opposite the residence of Rasheed Gafar.
Police officers rushed to the scene and took the victim to Chileka Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Medical personnel said the man died from a deep cut to the head sustained during the crash,” said Mulimbika.
Mulimbika said the man was not wearing a crash helmet at the time of the accident.
The motorcycle sustained damage to its front part, while its handlebar was bent.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital mortuary pending identification.
Ndirande Police has since appealed to people whose relatives left home on a motorcycle and have not returned to contact the police station or the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital mortuary to assist with identification.
Police have also urged motorcyclists to wear crash helmets and observe speed limits to reduce road accidents and loss of life.
