Mighty Wanderers Queens produced a stunning second-half turnaround on Sunday, scoring four goals in 25 minutes to beat FACT Ladies 4-1 in the NBM Women’s Premiership at Mpira Stadium.
The match appeared destined for a tight finish after both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in a largely uneventful first half that ended goalless.
FACT grew into the game before the break, with their frontline causing problems, but Wanderers goalkeeper Grace Chapola made an important save in the 43rd minute to deny Tawina Kawagah after a good move involving Atuweni Njilima.
The game changed just two minutes after the restart when Falunah Umali broke the deadlock in the 47th minute. Estere January opened up the FACT defence with a brilliant pass before Umali’s effort took a deflection and found the net.
Wanderers then took complete control, with Kawagah hitting the post in the 52nd minute before Shira Mangani also struck the upright for the hosts a minute later.
Atuweni Njilima doubled the advantage in the 66th minute after a slick team move, with January again providing the assist. Umali then added her second from the penalty spot three minutes later after a handball in the box.
Tawina Kawagah completed Wanderers’ four-goal burst in the 71st minute with a powerful strike, again assisted by January, as the Nomads threatened to run away with an even bigger victory.
FACT eventually pulled one back in the 84th minute when Evelyn Dallas capitalised on a mistake by Wanderers goalkeeper Esther Maulidi to score into an empty net.
The result lifts Wanderers Queens to three points from two matches, while Falunah Umali’s two-goal performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
