The long-running controversy surrounding the acquisition of Amaryllis Hotel has taken a fresh turn, with Parliament moving to force answers into the public domain.
Speaker of the National Assembly Sameer Suleman has directed that the report of the parliamentary inquiry into the controversial acquisition of Amaryllis Hotel be released within seven days.
Speaking during a media briefing, Suleman said the directive is aimed at ensuring that the inquiry into the purchase of the hotel is brought to a conclusion without further delays.
The Public Accounts Committee has been investigating the acquisition of Amaryllis Hotel by the Public Service Pension Trust Fund amid concerns surrounding the transaction.
Meanwhile, Suleman said Parliament has received complaints from Malawians on several issues that they want lawmakers to investigate, including the Salima-Lilongwe Waterway Project.
He said it has been alleged that some politicians are withholding funds for the completion of the project unless they stand to benefit from it.
Suleman said Parliament has since formed a joint committee to investigate the allegations and follow up on the concerns surrounding the project.
He said the committee will establish the facts and report its findings to Parliament.
