The SADC Organ Troika Summit, chaired by Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability in Madagascar.
The virtual summit urged all parties to prioritize inclusive dialogue and refrain from violence and destructive actions.
The leaders emphasized the need to protect vulnerable populations, including the elderly, youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
They also called for engagement with strategic partners, such as the Indian Ocean Commission, the African Union, and the United Nations, to help resolve the crisis.
Madagascar is experiencing widespread protests and unrest driven by economic struggles, corruption, bad governance, power and water shortages, and demands for the president’s resignation.
The government has, however, responded with excessive force, leading to human rights violations and abuse.
