President Peter Mutharika has appointed two new Cabinet ministers with immediate effect, as part of efforts to strengthen his administration and enhance delivery in key government sectors.
According to a statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), signed by Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Adack Saidi, the appointments take effect immediately.
Member of Parliament Roza Fatch Mbilizi has been appointed Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, placing her at the helm of a portfolio central to Malawi’s economy and food security.
Mbilizi’s appointment comes at a time when the agriculture sector is grappling with challenges ranging from climate shocks to low productivity, issues that the government hopes to address through renewed leadership and innovation.
Meanwhile, George Patridge has been named Minister of Industrialisation, Business, Trade, and Tourism, a ministry key to driving economic growth, job creation, and investment promotion.
George Partridge brings extensive corporate experience to his new role, having held several senior positions in the private sector, including serving as Chief Executive Officer of Press Corporation Limited.
Roza Mbilizi also has a strong professional background, having previously served as Deputy Commissioner General at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
These appointments follow the President’s earlier Cabinet appointments on October 5, when he named George Chaponda as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Mwanamvekha as Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, and Alfred Gangata as Minister of State.
