A strike in each half from Patrick Macheso and Levison Maganizo inspired Silver Strikers to a comfortable 2-0 win away to Kamuzu Barracks to progress to this season’s Airtel Top 8 Cup semifinals, winning 3-1 on aggregate in the two-legged matches.

The Central Bankers went into the second leg needing a win to progress after they were frustrated at home by their opponents in the first leg to draw 1-1 and they meant business when Macheso tapped in from Chawanangwa Kaonga’s pass inside the opening minutes of the match.

Despite KB’s push for an equalizer, Leo Mpulura’s men completed the mission in the additional minutes of the second half when Maganizo found the back of the net to put the match beyond the Soldiers’ reach to set up a semifinal showdown with defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets.

The People’s Team were the first to seal their spot in the final four with an 8-1 emphatic win over Karonga United in the two-legged ties and now they have to face a side which is too desperate for a silverware having missed out on the league and FDH Bank Cup.

In other semifinal tie, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will welcome Blue Eagles.

According to Football Association of Malawi, the last four matches will be played on the weekend of 10 and 11 December with the final match set for December 17, 2022.

Of the four semifinalists, only Wanderers have never won the cup, with Silver winning it twice and Bullets and Eagles winning it once.

The semifinal fixtures indicate both Bullets and Wanderers are home to Silver and Eagles but FAM will officially communicate on venues for the showdown.

The winner will walk away with a trophy K17 million and a beautiful trophy later this month at a venue yet to be announced by the country’s soccer governing body.

Airtel Top 8 Cup will mark the end of Malawi’s 2022 football calendar which started in March this year.
