The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) in conjunction with Ministry of Education has released results of the 2022 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations which indicate that out of 152,391 candidates who sat for the examinations, 84,242 have passed representing 58.44 percent pass rate.
Announcing the results at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on Friday, Minister of Education Agnes NyaLonje said the results show an improvement from the 52.02% pass rate in 2021.
She then commended the candidates for working hard and also encouraged those who have failed to pull up their socks and try again.
On her part, MANEB Executive Director Dorothy Nampota said this year’s examinations were free from leakage and those who were found cheating in examinations were taken to court.
She said that out of 70,132 female candidates who sat for the examinations, 36,795 have passed representing 52.47%.
She added that out of the 77,845 male candidates who sat for the examinations, 49,683 have passed. This represents 63.82% pass rate.
Nampota went on to say that out of the 1,023 Special Needs Education (SNE) candidates who sat for this examination, 554 have passed representing 54.15% pass rate an improvement from 45.01% of 2021.
Out of 498 total SNE female candidates, 247 have passed representing 49.60%. Out of 525 male SNE candidates, 307 have passed representing 58.48%.
In the exams, the top ten education districts are Zomba Urban 68.43%, Likoma 66.67%, Dowa 65.67%, Phalombe 64.45%, Mzuzu City 63.71%, Dedza 63.11%, Karonga 61.87%, Mulanje 61.12%, Ntchisi 60.98% and Nkhatabay 60.20%
In 2021, 128, 992 candidates were registered while in 2022, 152, 391 candidates were registered.
