The budget review meeting of Parliament will commence on Tuesday 5th March.

According to a press statement signed by Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya, the meeting will run up from Tuesday 5th March to Monday 18th March, 2019.

Msowoya has urged all cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and Members of Parliament to attend the meeting.

There were doubts over whether the budget review meeting would take place but State House spokesperson, Mgeme Kalilani said Thursday it was up to the Speaker to decide the date when Parliament can reconvene.

“I can confirm that the President has written the Speaker’s office for Parliament to reconvene but I am not able to know what is contained in the letter. I think the Speaker of the National Assembly should be in the know as to when Parliament can reconvene,” he said.

The current Malawi Parliament is expected to be dissolved on 20 March as Malawi is preparing for 21 May 2019 tripartite elections.

During the last meeting of parliament, the house passed eleven government bills including the Corrupt Practices Act (Amendment), OPEC Fund International (Nkhata Bay Town Waters Supply and Sanitation Project) Loan, Reserve Bank Bill and Minerals Bill, African Development Fund Bill.
