…President Ramaphosa implicated
South Africa based Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is at the center of a K500 million Malawi Kwacha (R10 million) extortion scandal intended to have his alleged criminal cases in South Africa disappear into thin air.
Sowetan Live reports that Enlightened Christian Gathering leader was approached crime intelligence unit cops and advisers to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The suspects, it has been reported, demanded R10 million (over 500 million Malawi Kwacha) from Bushiri to squash all criminal cases opened against the Malawian born Prophet which the publication claim to range from money laundering, racketeering and rape.
Bushiri turned down the offer and opted to have his day in court. He, however, made another bold decision as decided to open a case of extortion with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) against the cops and the two individuals who claimed to be Ramaphosa personal aides.
He also reported the shenanigans to the crime intelligence inspector-general Setlhomamaru Dintwe.
Bushiri alleged that the cops harassed him and flagged his passport and even flew to his Pretoria church in a helicopter and threatened to arrest him on the pulpit before his millions of congregants.
Ipid spokesperson Moses Dlamini confirmed that Bushiri had lodged an extortion case with them and investigations were under way.
“I can confirm that a complaint has been lodged with our Gauteng provincial office. An investigation will be conducted by Ipid,” he said in a written reply.
Dintwe’s legal adviser advocate Jay Govender confirmed Bushiri had filed an extortion complaint with them and it was being investigated.
“We have received a complaint from Dr Prophet Bushiri. The matter is still under investigation hence we are unable to comment at this stage,” she said in a written reply.
Bushiri, confirmed through his lawyer Ntsako Baloyi that he had filed extortion complaints with the two law enforcement agencies.
Buishiri maintains his innocence in all cases which he claims were fabricated in order to extort money from him and to soil his good name and reputation.
