Fischer denies joining MCP

Just 48 hours after announcing his decision to join the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in readiness for the 2019 Tripartite elections, Nyasa Big Bullets veteran winger Fischer Kondowe has made a surprising U-turn saying he is an independent candidate.

On Tuesday, Kondowe appeared at MCP’s function when Sidik Mia was holding a press conference where he was receiving some aspiring candidates to represent the party next year.

And during the event, Mia welcomed the candidates alongside Kondowe.

However, the former Bloemfontein Celtic and Black Leopards winger has distanced himself from any political party saying he only attended the event because he received an invitation to attend the meeting.

Speaking to one of the local radio stations, Kondowe said he is willing to work with any party.
“I am an independent candidate and I haven’t joined MCP. I only attended the function because I received an invitation. I am willing to work with any party be it MCP, UDF or DPP but at the moment, I don’t belong to any political party,” he said.

The Bullets winger announced his intentions to contest for a parliamentary seat next year.

He will face former Bullets and Flames teammate Peter Mponda, former National Youth Football Association Chairman Mabvuto Missi, former Bullets Chairman Noel Lipipa and the incumbent Member of Parliament Allan Ngumuya.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer for Bullets Fleetwood Haiya says Kondowe will continue playing for the club until the expiry of his contract.

There were rumors that the club wanted to terminate his contract following his decision to join politics.

But in the event of primaries and one of the two loses, what shall become of him having garnered strong ambitions of standing? Embarrassment, right? Unless the situation allows one to stand as an independent the other on MCP’s. Situations like these put an aspirant on an awkward position politically. Fischer if it is true that he aspires but he has already started making unnecessary noises, he stands to be out of the tangent. Chances for Mponda and others will be high. Fischer needs to sober up if he doesn’t, am afraid people will not trust him.

Good decision #Jahman , I was expecting to hear this from you, just 2 days ago Nyasatime News wrote that you have join MCP and you will contest as a candidate of MCP, and I was the one make it clear that you made a bad decision. You have alot of followers, alot of people loves you as #Fischer_Kondowe, a man who has contributed a lot in our local football Club Nyasa BB which so far has also alot supporters than any local club in malawi, this shows that your followers belongs to different political party but they both come together in football and give you alot of support, so joining a party could have make your supporties to be divided based on what they like or want, but the decision you have make now of contesting as an independent candidate will help you to stand in the middle of your supporters then you will have much support from both sides of political party voters.
