The Malawi Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has closed the fishing season in some lakes and rivers in the country.
This is according to the ministry’s press statement which was released on Wednesday.
In the statement, the ministry says the some bodies will be closed to fishing with specified gears during the stated periods.
The ministry says Lake Malawi, Lake Malombe and Upper Shire will be closed with specified gears from 1st October to 31st December.
The ministry further says Lake Chilwa and Mpoto Lagoon will be closed with specified gears from 1st December to 28th February.
In the statement, the ministry has reminded the fishing community and the public that it is illegal to fish during the stated period.
