The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has expressed worry over low prices being offered to farmers for their agricultural produce in Malawi.

In a statement titled ‘a desperate people, a desperate nation’ made available to Malawi24 signed by CCJP secretaries for the eight Catholic dioceses in Malawi, the Catholic organization has called for action on low prices of agricultural produce.

“The failure by the Government to timely address the issues of commodity prices has left a lot of farmers in desperate situation. The exorbitant costs farmers incurred when purchasing farm inputs and the current commodity market prices do not assist the farmers in any way to be more interested to engage more in agro-business ventures. This has negative consequences,” reads part of the statement

CCJP has urged government to take on board advice given by agricultural stakeholders on challenges rocking the sector.

On education, the Catholic organisation has expressed worry over delay to have resources ready in schools for the new syllabus that was introduced by government.

Political violence in the country has also given the organisations a sad face.

CCJP has demanded for the immediate curbing of the malpractice between political parties.
