Teacher caught stealing

A teacher at Likoma Secondary School in the district has been arrested for stealing paint.

Information made available to this publication has identified the teacher as Khumbo Chirwa who hails from Nkhatabay district.

“He was caught stealing paint from the school’s warehouse. He is suspected to have stolen other construction materials and the police are still investigating him,” said one staff member at the school.

cuffsOne of the teachers at Likoma, a district in Malawi where the cost of living is high, said the meagre salary teachers receive cannot keep someone going.

“I suspect this is one of the reasons that tempted our colleague to indulge in the malpractice. The cost of living is very high and our salaries are very little,” he added.

According to officer in charge for Likoma police Chipezeyani Makwate, Chirwa will appear in court soon to answer charges of theft by public servant.

How do you expect them to take care of their kids. They’re are surely not thieves but are forced by tough and miserable situations into doing such.
