Lethal forward Richard Mbulu scored a brace to condemn Be Forward Wanderers to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of his side MAFCO who now lead the TNM Super League log table.

The battle fought on land and in the air between the two teams took place on Saturday afternoon at Chitowe stadium in Dwangwa township of Nkhotakota district.

The services of Francis Mlimbika, Jafali Chande, Joseph Kamwendo and Peter Wadabwa in the Nomads’ striking force failed to penetrate the defensive membrane of MAFCO.

A match of goals in the first half saw the vibrant goal scorer Mbulu giving MAFCO the lead in the first two minutes.

The striker doubled his side’s advantage on 20 minutes after the defensive membrane of Nomads went docile.

Former TP Mazembe star Joseph Kamwendo put the Nomads back into the game when he found the back of the net in the 42nd minute to make it 2-1.

In the second half, the Nomads were constantly threatening the soldiers as they were pushing for an equaliser.

The introduction of former EPAC forward man Ishmael Thindwa together with Ernest Tambe yielded no profit to make Wanderers grab the day. The game ended 2-1 in favour of the soldiers.

Nomads fans will leave to remember Mbulu as his wonderful performance in the Presidential Cup this year saw the Nomads bow out as the Soldiers won 3-2 in an action jammed match at Kamuzu Stadium in May.

Speaking to the media, MAFCO team manager Chawezi Ngwira said the good coordination of the players granted the team the vital win.

“We played as a team and we are happy with the game, players played according to what they were told by the coach,” Ngwira explained.

On his part, team manager for Wanderers accepted the defeat but faulted MAFCO’s time wasting tactics.

“Let me just congratulate our friends for making it today, it wasn’t our day, though the additional minutes were not matching because MAFCO were delaying too match and had multiple stoppages but all in all we accept the defeat,” Steve Madeira explained.

The result means MAFCO are on position one with 37 points while Mighty Be Forward Wanderers have 28 points and are on position 9.

In another match on Saturday, Karonga united beat Civo United 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Nangaunozge Luhanga.
