Miss Blantyre pageant organisers have parted ways with one of the pageant’s partners Yanga because the Lilongwe based company failed to honour contract obligations.

In a statement released by management of Miss Blantyre beauty contest, Yanga Company approached them for the partnership and offered to have the Blantyre queen as an ambassador for the company’s online education but the sponsor failed to implement the project.

Miss Blantyre Pageant chairman Daniel Ngwira described the move as regrettable and unfortunate.

“The modelling industry suffers a lot of stereotypes and Miss Blantyre has pioneered restoration of such trust to modelling. Such a development somehow leaves a lot to be desired and speculate as clearly Yanga made the pledge over something they could not achieve,” Ngwira said.

He added that they will continue attracting better partners and sponsorships as they are preparing for the next beauty contest in November this year.

“We will announce Executive Board that will be strategizing decisions and partnerships that will help us from now onwards to target meaningful and fruitful partnerships to help us reach beyond the beauty theme,” Ngwira said.

According to Ngwira, the executive team will also guide the social and cooperate activities towards the pageant line up for the queen and princess since they have drawn lessons from last year.

Commenting on the termination of the contract, Chief Executive Officer of Yanga Company Ernest Kapeleta said that they tried all they could but their business failed to pick up hence they had to suspend the Yanga project.

“We are willing to work with Miss Blantyre team in future in a different capacity but at the moment we are not in business and we cannot afford to continue with the partnerships but meanwhile we still afford Miss Blantyre Chisomo Machelo the car privilege and paid monthly allowances from January to May,” said Kapeleta.

He further said that his company agreed the mutual termination to avoid any inconveniences and they have arranged a token for the current Miss Blantyre which they will pay by August to compensate for her allowance.

Miss Blantyre beauty contest has several partners from last year such as TechnoBrain, Julies Bakery, Queens Bakery, AXA and Premier Bus Company.
