Minibus accident kills 4, injures 15

Four people have been killed while 15 others have been injured after a driver lost control of a minibus in Blantyre, Malawi24 can report.

Confirming to this publication, Blantyre police deputy spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said the driver, Vincent Chiwamba, lost control of the minibus Hiace as he was driving from the city heading to Sigerege Township.

road accidentAccording to Mayawo, the driver failed to restart the engine when he was driving using neutral gear.

“He lost control and the vehicle hit one of the buildings leading to the death of the four,” said Mayawo.

The spokesperson added that six people sustained serious injuries while 9 got minor injuries and they were treated as out-patients at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QUECH).

Chiwamba comes from Chikulamayembe area in Mzimba district and he is being kept in police custody as part of investigations over the accident.
