Mzingwitsa said the exercise comes amidst increasing concerns over some drivers who are flouting road traffic rules which has led to road accidents in the district.

According to the spokesperson, the exercise was conducted as one way of ensuring that vehicles that are not roadworthy should not be on the roads.

“The exercise was conducted to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles are those on the road,” he said.

Mzingwitsa however said that the vehicles will be released only when the owners pay fines. She added that the law enforcers will continue the exercise in order to reduce accidents.

The police spokesperson however warned that the traffic police will deal with reckless drivers who are flouting road traffic rules leading to road accidents and has asked Malawians to keep on feeding them with information.
