Five people who went fishing have drowned in Lake Malawi in Nkhatabay district after a boat they were sailing in capsized.

According to reports reaching this publication, the five drowned fishermen and Emmanuel Salewa, who has survived, went to the lake on Saturday for fishing.

It is reported that as the six fishermen were in the line of duty, strong Mwela winds started pushing them northwards until they failed to take control over it and the boat capsized.

Lake MalawiMalawi24 understands that the survivor clung to the boat until it reached shallow waters.

He was found by some people who visited the site and got helped before being taken to Chintheche hospital in the district where he is recovering.

Speaking at his bed in the hospital, Salewa said they were dumped into the lake by the strong winds that hit the lake.

Meanwhile, two bodies have been found on the lake floating while three other bodies are still missing but authorities say they are looking for the missing bodies.
