The Malawi National Commission for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has donated books and computers to Mzuzu University worth at least K40 million Kwacha.
Mzuzu University is struggling to provide library services to its 4000 students following fire that gutted its library in December last year.
Speaking during the function of handing over the books, Executive Secretary of Malawi National Commission for UNESCO, Francis Mkandawire said the institution needed to explore ICT programmes such as e-learning to overcome the challenges it is facing.
According to Mzuzu University Vice Chancellor, Robert Ridley, a number of well-wishers have assisted the university since its library was gutted by fire last year.
He mentioned several individuals and institutions such as Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) who donated books, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri who donated money and the Mzuzu University Alumni who organised a fundraising dinner and dance to raise money for the reconstruction and restocking of the library.
