Suspected thief burnt alive by mob IN Blantyre

An angry mob set ablaze a suspected thief in Machinjiri Township , Blantyre on Thursday.

According to assistant Public Relations Officer for Limbe police Widson Nhlane the thief, whose details are not yet known, broke into a house of a Machinjiri resident and demanded cash from the owner of the house.

“The thief broke into a house of a certain person and threatened him to give him money or else would stab him with a screw driver,” said Nhlane.

The owner of the house was resisting to give money to the thief and the burglar stabbed the man on the neck.

That is when the owner of the house shouted for help.

The screams alerted members of the Machinjiri community and they came out to help the man.

They managed to catch the thief and they later burnt him to death.

Nhlane said investigations are underway to arrest those who burnt the deceased.

Meanwhile Police are reminding members of the general public that taking the law into their hands is an offence because a person is not guilty until convicted by the court of law.
