Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) has urged students in higher learning institutions to donate blood to save lives.
Speaking during a sensitization campaign at Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ), Lilongwe campus, MBTS senior public relations assistant for central region Upile Kaimvi said there are a lot of people in hospitals across the country who are in need of blood.
Kaimvi advised the students to be key players in donating blood to save lives of people in the hospitals.
“Blood is almost needed daily in our hospitals by women in maternity wing, people who have been involved in accidents and those who are undergoing various operations,” Mrs Kaimvi said.
Students from the college sought clarifications from Kaimvi on reports that some medical personnel sell blood to patients in the hospitals.
In response, Kaimvi said that it is high time Malawians exposed such medical personnel to authorities.
“Malawians must now not be silent when such people have been noted, report them to us and proper ways will be taken to deal with such people,” Kaimvi said.
