Flames: their game has been given go ahead.

However, FAM General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed that the match will go ahead saying the Flames will leave the country on March 20 via Ethiopia.

Nyirenda added that the match against Sierra Leone on March 22  will be used as a tune up for the Flames who will play against Guinea for their 2017 African Cup of Nations group L qualifier in Conakry.

“The Flames will leave for Sierra Leone via Ethiopia on Sunday for a friendly match with the Leone Stars which will be played on 22 March. The match will help Malawi to tune up because they failed to secure some friendlies apart from Sierra Leone,” said Nyirenda.

Nyirenda added that it is not easy to secure friendly matches with high profile teams in the absence of agents who demands a lot of money.

Abu Bakarr Kamara of the Sierra Leone Football association told one of the country’s online publications that talks between his association and the Malawi FA are going on positively and the friendly match between Malawi and Sierra Leone will be on the 22nd of March as planned.

This will be the third friendly meetings between Leone Stars and the Flames with the later winning the previous two encounters at home in Lilongwe way back in 1978.

There has never been a competitive fixture between the two teams.

Both the Flames and the Leone Stars will use the friendly match as dress rehearsal ahead of their must win African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea and Gabon respectively.

Currently, the Leone Stars are bottom in group I with a single point whereas Malawi are ranked 3rd in group L with a single point.
