Malawi Congress Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Mchinji West constituency Billy Kanjira has died this morning in Lilongwe.

Kanjira collapsed in his car while at St Francis Catholic Church in Area 25 in the city. He was taken to Daeyang Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Member of Parliament for Mchinji South West Deus Gumba Banda also confirmed that Kanjira died at Daeyang Hospital after collapsing at church.


“I am now at Daeyang Hospital and they are yet to take the body to the mortuary, I’ll give you details later when I consult the family,” he said.

In Parliament on Friday, Kanjira accused some Members of Parliament of pocketing millions in bribes to pass the budget. This led to a verbal war with Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje who sent him out of the House.

He was told to return to the National Assembly on Monday.

His family is yet to announce burial arrangements.

    9. it’s foolish to joke about the reality of death. it’s a big sign of an imminent death on a person who pokes fun of it. Real Malawians are cautious of death and are scared of it. I fear for u and for your future.
