Man hacks uncle to death

Malawi Police officers in Dedza district are keeping in custody a 25 year-old man for killing his uncle with a panga knife.

The suspect, Chifundo Metusalemu hacked his uncle, Yohane Matukuta, 58, after the uncle had advised him to speak politely to his grandmother.

Confirming to Malawi24, Dedza Police spokesperson Cassim Manda said the suspect got drunk and accused his grandmother of unfair distribution of land.

“On 29 February 2016 the suspect while fully drunk called his uncle and his grandmother and accused the woman of bias on land distribution.”

“The deceased advised him to speak in polite manner since his grandmother is sick but he took it as excuse for he started fighting,” said Manda.

He further said that the suspect took a Panga knife and hacked his uncle’s head repeatedly. Post-mortem results from Dedza district hospital revealed the deceased died due to head injuries sustained during the fight.

The suspect is yet to appear in court to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code.

The deceased hailed from Madinga village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kachere in Dedza district.
