The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says the process of demarcating constituencies in the country will begin soon.

MEC chairperson Maxon Mbendera made the remarks when he officially received 24 motorcycles from Malawi National Statistical Office (NSO) in Blantyre.

Mbendera said the donation has come on time as the motorcycles will help the electoral body when it will be demarcating constituencies.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, commissioner for NSO Mercy Kanyuka said they thought of helping MEC so that the organisation’s officers can easily travel to different parts of Malawi.

“Since the work of MEC doesn’t end when the elections has ended, there are several other duties that MEC perform even in absence of the elections. We know these motorcycles will be useful,” Kanyuka said.

MEC borrowed 50 motorcycles from NSO during the 2014 elections and managed to give back 26 motorcycles.
