A few days after a Blantyre based man Charles Chipanda committed suicide after murdering his wife and step-son in Zingwangwa Township, a woman believed to be mentally ill in Mchinji has killed her three biological sons using a hoe handle.
The woman murdered the children in a garden where the family went to gather mangoes.
Police identified the woman as Violet Eliya, 38, of Manthalo village Traditional Authority (T/A) Mavwele in Mchinji district.
National police spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa said the three murdered children were aged eleven, nine, and five.
Police have since advised people in the country to take good care of people who are mentally challenged and make sure they are monitored in their movements.
Eliya is currently in police custody while police investigations on the matter are underway.
