United Democratic Front (UDF) publicist Ken Ndanga says this year’s drought could be the worst ever in the country.

Ndanga who claims to have visited many areas across Malawi also says there is little sign that Malawi will get a bumper yield this growing season.

“I have travelled the breadth and the width of the country and what I have seen are wilting maize crops which may not survive the next 7 days if the rain pattern continues,” said Ndanga.

Ndanga believes that Malawi will face another hunger which will heavily affect the country’s already torn economy.

“I have all the reasons to believe that Malawi is going to face acute food shortage this year. This situation alone will have adverse impact on the economy and that in essence means more problems for the country,” he said

The political leader then urged all Malawians to work together and plan for this in advance.

“This is the problem I have and it is your problem too,” he said. “Let us work together in planning so that there should not be loss of life due to this problem.”
