The government of Malawi has suggested that former President Joyce Banda is using Cashgate money to live abroad as she has never revealed the source of the money which she is using during her exile.
In a statement on Sunday, government’s spokesperson Jappie Mhango said Banda has to reveal to the nation the source of the money because staying abroad for 15 months is too expensive.
The spokesperson also wondered why Banda refused government’s offer to help her family look for a suitable house for her in the country; a move which Mhango believes was aimed at justifying her prolonged stay in foreign countries.
In his statement, Mhango claimed that the former president is trying to divert public attention from her criminal acts by bringing up baseless attacks against President Peter Mutharika and his government.
