Malawi government says former President Joyce Banda should come back to face cashgate convict Triza Namathanga Senzani in court as this will be a smarter way of telling the nation what is really true regarding her implication in the cashgate scandal.

Government spokesperson, Jappie Mhango, was reacting to Banda’s recent blast on DPP, government, and President Peter Mutharika.

Banda: Wanted in Court.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Mhango said Banda’s attack in the Nation Newspaper of 29 December, 2015, is a statement full of deceit and is a moral outrage.

He said if the former president feels she has any moral integrity left in her mind, she cannot be at peace with her God.

Senzani, who got convicted on cashgate matters, stated in her sworn testimony that the former president was instructing her ministers to source money for her party.

However, Mhango said Banda is shamefully distorting this information to an extent of saying no cabinet meeting discussed that issue yet Senzani did not say it was discussed at a cabinet meeting; a thing he said is out of order.

“The fact is that she gave the instructions at a meeting of an inner and trusted circle of some cabinet ministers, senior party officials and some close confidants,” Mhango said in the statement.

Mhango said it was at that meeting where Banda was advised to hire Paul Mphwiyo as a new budget director so that he could implement cashgate scheme and says that was the genesis of cashgate.
