Malawi Government has promised to continue constructing rural growth centres across the country.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa said this in response to Chitipa East Member of Parliament’s concern over the issue.

Kondwani Nankhumwa.
Nankhumwa: Confirmed of the development.

According to Nankhumwa, a lot of Malawians have been leaving rural areas.

“We have seen people going to urban areas to look for jobs, others to do their business,” he said.

He however added that the project that started during Bingu Wa Mutharika’s reign will provide jobs for people in rural areas and will help reduce urban population.

Currently, government has completed construction of some rural growth centres such as Jenda in Mzimba and Maloma in Ntchisi while others such as Monkey Bay in Mangochi and Chitekesa in Phalombe are yet to be completed.
