…DPP MPs revolt against Mutharika
Members of Parliament belonging to the Malawi ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have branded as trash the speech that President Peter Mutharika delivered in Parliament.
Backbenchers on the government side have sided with Leader of Opposition, Lazarus Chakwera, who criticized Mutharika for delivering an empty speech.
“There is even confusion on the government benches on whether to comment on his address because they are aware that it was substandard. When they are commenting in Parliament, they are dwelling more on what Chakwera said and not their President” revealed Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila in an interview with one of the local papers.
Malawi24 understand that the revolting DPP lawmakers were strongly advised by the Government Chief Whip against calling the President’s speech an empty of substance in Parliament.
