Police in Kanengo are looking for a driver who hit to death a teenage girl on Friday.
Kanengo Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Salome Zgambo Chibwana confirmed the incident which occurred at around 8pm.
She said the accident happened along the Lilongwe-Kasungu road in Kanengo opposite Tobacco Control Commission offices.
Chibwana said the motor vehicle was being driven from the direction of Kasungu heading to Kanengo.
When the vehicle got close to the Tobacco Control Commission building, it hit the girl who was crossing the road from left to right.
The girl died on the spot due to severe head injuries and fractured right leg and the motor vehicle did not stop. The victim who is aged between 13 and 15 is yet to be identified.
Police are therefore advising drivers not to speed off after hitting a pedestrian but rather to attend to them and report the accident to the nearby police station.
