Malawi’s Minister of gender children, disability and social welfare, Patricia Kaliati, has encouraged girls in the country to concentrate on their studies.
Kaliati said this at Zolozolo Secondary School in Mzuzu city.
According to Kaliati, girls are failing to excel in life due to some of the challenges they are facing such as poverty and early marriages.
“We are encouraging our girls to study hard by leaving other things behind to excel in life like we are doing now,” she said.
On the issue of inadequacy of school facilities, the minister assured girls at Zolozolo Secondary School that government will assist them with resources whenever they become available.
She said: “We will be discussing with organisations, donors and also us the government through Beautify Malawi Trust to combat the situation.”
