Police in Dowa have arrested a 41-year-old bishop in connection with the murder of 31-year-old FDH Bank employee Tathokoza Salimu.
The suspect, identified as Medran Chirwa, a bishop at Fountain of Victory Church in Lilongwe, is accused of killing Salimu, whose body was found inside her vehicle on September 21, 2026.
Salimu was found dead at Chakhota Village, near Tatolonga Bridge along the Dzaleka-Dowa Road, after motorists and other passers-by noticed her vehicle parked by the roadside.
She was found with blood on her body and an injury to her neck, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her death.
Dowa Police spokesperson Alice Sitima said investigations, together with medical examinations, established that Salimu had been shot.
Police are continuing with investigations to establish whether other people were involved in the killing.
Sitima said Chirwa is expected to appear in court soon to answer a murder charge.
