Blantyre dries up twice

Dry Tap- Malawi24
No where to run! Blantyre is not only running dry at the fuel pumps, the dry taps are now telling another story.

While some residents spend hours in fuel queues, others are heading home only to turn on their taps and hear nothing.

A major pipeline burst has disrupted water supplies across parts of the commercial city, with residents urged to save the little water they have.

In a statement, Blantyre Water Board said the burst occurred at the Walkers Ferry Pumping Station, affecting water pumping to several areas.

The Board said the damaged pipeline is a major one, warning that the disruption could affect water availability in parts of Blantyre.

“Customers are therefore urged to use water sparingly while the repair works are being undertaken,” the statement reads.

The Board said repair works were already underway, with engineers working to restore the damaged pipeline and resume normal water supply.

It added that water bowsers would be deployed to supply affected areas, including Mudi and Nguludi.

“Where water is being pumped, the Blantyre Water Board will provide water bowsers to all affected areas,” the statement said.
