Man commits suicide in Lingadzi

A 26-year-old man, Francis Hojani, has died by suicide in Area 47, Lilongwe.

Lingadzi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Glory Kondowe Ngwira, confirmed the incident, which occurred on the morning of April 5, 2026.

Hojani was found unresponsive inside his family home.

According to police, Hojani had earlier been accused on April 2, 2026, of selling a friend’s mobile phone and failing to hand over the money.

The case was reported to Lingadzi Police Station but was later resolved on April 4 after compensation was made, leading to the withdrawal of the complaint and his release from custody.

On the day of the incident, all family members had gone to church at Lilongwe CCAP Congregation in Area 47 Sector 5.

After the service, which ended around 08:30, Hojani’s younger sister returned home first and discovered him hanging inside the house.

She alerted her brother, who then informed their father, and the matter was reported to police.

Detectives, along with medical personnel from Area 18A Health Centre, visited the scene and confirmed the death.

A medical examination determined the cause of death to be hypoxia due to hanging.Hojani hailed from Timoti Village under Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba District.
