The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has made it clear that it will not tolerate double registration in the ongoing voter registration, a serious offence under electoral laws.
This comes after Bisias Elton Nkhoma was last week found guilty of registering twice in Blantyre City.
The court has ordered Nkhoma to pay a fine of K200,000.00 or face two years of imprisonment.
In a statement, MEC has strongly condemned this illegal practice, emphasizing that it undermines the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
The Commission remains committed to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Malawi.
As part of this effort, MEC is urging all citizens to respect electoral laws and participate in the democratic process responsibly.
This ruling serves as a clear warning to anyone considering engaging in double registration or other electoral malpractices.
