A bus belonging to Ulemu Bus Service on Saturday hit to death a 60 year old pedal cyclist in Dedza.
Dedza police deputy spokesperson Constable Cassim Manda said the accident occurred on Saturday at around 6pm at Mthandizi area along the Dedza-Lilongwe M1 road.
He identified the deceased as Thomas Thom.
According to Manda, the Torino Bus registration number BS 74 belonging to Ulemu Bus service, driven by Noel Mkanthama, was coming from Ntcheu direction heading to Lilongwe, with 70 passengers on board.
Upon arrival at Mthandizi within Dedza Township, the driver saw the pedal cyclist who was cycling towards the same direction.
Suddenly, the cyclist turned to his right hand side of the road, while the motor vehicle was at a close distance.
The bus then hit the cyclist and following the impact, Thom, died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
Thomas Thom was coming from Kapesi village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza district.
