Chitipa United have won the 2018 SIMSO League and have also secured promotion to the Malawi Super League.

On Saturday, Chitipa beat Ekwendeni Hammers 1-0 to seal the title and return to the Super League where they were relegated in the 2017 season.

The champions have 85 points from 35 games, 15 points more than second placed Bolero United who have 70 points from 34 games. Chitipa are remaining with three league games to wind up the season.

Commenting on the issue, Chitipa United coach Robert Mziza said he was happy to take the club to the Super league for the second time.

“I am very proud that Chitipa United have been promoted twice under my charge. This season we worked hard as a team,” said Mziza.

General Secretary of Northern Region football Association (NRFA) Masiya Nyasulu said Chitipa United had a plan to return to the Super League.

“Chitipa proved to be a hard nut to crack and today we can confirm that Chitipa United are the 2018 SIMSO champions.

“They showed maturity as you can see the whole season they have only lost a single game against Fish Eagles which means they were playing with purpose,” said Nyasulu.

He added that plans are underway to do as last year whereby the NRFA committee organized a top four bonanza.

In the Central Region Chipiku League, Mlatho of Mponela are the champions and they have also been promoted to Super league.
