The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has excluded Member of Parliament for Dedza East Juliana Lunguzi from participating in the constituency’s primary elections scheduled for 17th November.
According to reports, the party’s Regional Committee for the Centre has been holding preparatory meetings for the primary but Lunguzi was never invited to any of the meetings.
In a circulating WhatsApp post, Lunguzi confirmed not being invited saying there are people in the party who want to block her from representing the party in Dedza East.
She suggested that the party already made a decision on who should be its candidate for the constituency during the 2019 elections.
“I am a NEC member and Sitting MP and have paid to express an interest to stand again under MCP not inviting me to a planning meeting speaks volumes and am not Naive by the way,” she says in the post.
On Twitter today she said: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger … so goes the saying. Good Morning. #DedzaEast.”
The party failed to hold primary elections in the constituency in September after a dispute ensued over eligible voters.
Later, Lunguzi claimed that the party’s Central Region Chairperson Augustin Chidzanja told people that Lunguzi would not win the primary elections because she has never given him money.
