Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is expected to arrive in Malawi today for a two-day visit.
Naidu will arrive in the country through Kamuzu International Airport.
He is expected to hold talks with President Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace on Monday.
According to government, Naidu will meet Indian nationals at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) tonight.
On Monday, he will also attend Malawi-India bilateral meetings at the BICC where there will be signing of MOUs and a presentation of artificial limb.
Naidu’s visit comes at a time Malawians have rejected the construction of a Mahatma Gandhi statue in Blantyre.
According to a statement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs dated October 30, Naidu was expected to unveil the bust.
However, that will not happen as construction of the statue was not completed following stern opposition from Malawians who argued that Gandhi supported the subjugation of black people.
Last week, a group called Gandhi Must Fall Movement campaigning against the erection of the Mahatma Gandhi statue obtained an injunction against the project.
