Woman in for possessing Chamba

Police in Nkhatabay are keeping in custody a woman identified as Rute Makuluni for possessing Indian hemp weighing 19.5 kilograms.

According to Nkhatabay Police spokesperson Ignatius Esau, police officers who were manning Mukwiya roadblock in the district found two bags loaded with Chamba in a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number KK 1521 which was on its way to Mzuzu from Dwangwa direction.

According to Esau, upon questioning the passengers they all pointed fingers at Makuluni as the owner of the illicit drug.

“Makuluni further confided to the police officers that indeed the two bags belonged to her,” Esau said.

Police confiscated the illicit drug and Makuluni will appear in where she is expected to answer the charge of being found in possession of cannabis sativa which contravenes regulation 4 (a) as read with section 19 of Dangerous Drugs Act.

Rute Makuluni hails from Bula village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
