Death has been announced of George Chamangwana, who until his death was Be Forward Wanderers Chairman.
Chamangwana died in the early hours of Friday, 28 July 2017 at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after succumbing to Tuberculosis (TB).
Following this, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has announced the postponement of the Blantyre derby between NyasaBig Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 30 July at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Sulom through its General Secretary Williams Banda confirmed the development in a statement which has been made available to Malawi24.
Sulom has described Chamangwana as someone who was dedicated to this beautiful game of football.
“The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) regrets to announce the postponement of the Nyasa Big Bullets versus Mighty Be Forward Wanderers game that was scheduled to take place on 30th July 2017 in line with article 17 (4) of the Sulom rules and regulations due to the death of George Chamangwana, the Chairman of Be Forward Wanderers at Blantyre Adventist Hospital in the early hours of Friday, 28th July 2017.
“Sulom further wishes to extend its sincere condolences to the Be Forward Wanderers and the bereaved family for the loss of George who was the pillar of strength to Malawi football and Wanderers. George will be remembered for reorganization of Be Forward Wanderers to its current statues as well as his contribution both as a player and team manager. May his soul rest in peace,” reads part of the statement released by Sulom.
Tributes have been pouring in from Super League clubs.
“The executive of Civil Sporting Club have learnt with great sadness of the passing of Mr. Chamangwana. We extend our condolences to his family and the entire Wanderers family,” reads Civil’s statement.
Meanwhile, burial arrangements are yet to be released to the general public

George I have heard about the sad story. I am deeply touched as a friend who worked together in Nakufreight and working as custom agents for some time. And it’s sad because it has happened while iam in another country. I only ask God to bless the funeral ceremony from the beginning to the end. May your soul rest in everlasting peace.
