The Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate court has sentenced a 44-year-old witchdoctor to 12 years imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old girl.
The witchdoctor has been identified as Chisoni Kachingwe.
Presenting facts in court, Prosecutor sergeant Cosmas said that on June 25, 2017 the convict went to the victim’s home to administer herbs to the girl after parents of the girl approached the witchdoctor when the young girl developed eye and hearing problems.
Unfortunately on the material day, the victim was alone at the house giving room to Kachingwe to fulfil his evil wish.
“He coaxed the girl and took her to a nearby bush and while in the act a passer-by noticed Kachingwe but the rapist fled,” prosecutor Cosmas said.
The rapist was arrested the following day and he was later convicted. In his ruling Magistrate Fred Chilowetsa said such malpractices are threatening the future of young girls.
“The parents trusted and hoped for your help as a herbalist, yet you brought more harm than help,” He said.
Chilowetsa then slapped Kachingwe with a 12 year jail term with hard labour to deter would be offenders.
The convict hails from Jinga village, Senior Chief Kanyenda in Nkhotakota district.
In a related development, the same court has convicted a 58 year old Harrison Nasaniyera to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for raping a 15 year-old girl who is a primary school learner.
Nasaniyeri hails from Tambala village, Traditional Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota.
