Mzuzu based boxer Malani Kayuni on Sunday beat soldier Wilson shasha Masamba on points in an eight round non-title bout which took place at Obrigado Leisure park.
Masamba dominated the first two rounds but Kayuni came with hard punches especially in last two rounds where Masamba was downed before he gained power to stand up and fight.
After the bout, Kayuni said that’s what he was expecting. “Since I came here from Lilongwe things are going well for me and I am a different Malani now, my working hard is helping me a lot,” he said. While his counterpart Wilson Masamba claimed that he deserved to win. “I won the bout but judges are much biased, that’s why here in the north boxing will never go far, and this is my last time coming here I will never come back.
“This was part of my training since am preparing my international bout on 16th December in South Africa,” said Masamba.
Baghdad Mwamlima of Baghdad boxing promotion thanked everyone for making the bout to happen.
” I want to thank all people who came to help me and Baghdad is now here to stay, this coming days on 26th December we are organising another big international bout involving three Tanzania’s boxers and other big three names here in Malawi at the same venue Obrigado leisure park,” said Mwamlima. Kayuni had 232 points while Masamba got 229 points. Before the main bout there were curtainrasers between Secret Chirwa and Wongani Kainga, as well as Laston Kaira fighting Yobe Kamnyonya. Wongani Kainga and Laston Kaira won on points.
